5th Sea Kayak Training Camp with @northseakayak team has just finished
Our annual and 5th Sea Kayak Training Camp with @northseakayak team has come to an end and we are so excited to let you know how it went! 🙂
This year’s team consisted of seven nationalities. We had paddlers joining us from Germany, Iceland, Belgium, Netherlands, Singapur, Jordan and Croatia. What a match! Not in a million years have we thought to attract such a diverse number of nationalities. We feel blessed to be able to meet and hang out with people from all over the world.
The team consisted of people with different skill levels but with a true desire to learn!
This year we had rough weather at the beginning of the week but no one seemed to be bothered with it. Everyone was eager to start with the training! 🙂
After our first acquaintance, we explored the basics of sea kayaking. The correct use of a paddle, forward strokes, basic steering, the difference between edging and leaning a sea kayak etc… In the afternoon the team trained on everything learned in the classroom.
On the second day, we learned about rescues and self-rescues, and in the afternoon, you guess – everything was practiced in the sea.
The third day was about boat control with paddling strokes for steering, support, and maneuvering.
After dinner, we went to take a walk and explore the old town of Korčula.
The fourth day was the day when everything started to get together with theory on “leading a group & incident management” with afternoon practice in the sea. Team members were slowly given assignments to be tour leaders and had to practice everything they have learned in previous days. There was all kind of imagined injuries like dislocated shoulders, unconscious paddlers and rough conditions. Everyone had their chance to train to be a team leader and to show their resourcefulness in difficult conditions.
The special treat of the day was visiting @SabulumWinery and tasting delicious local wines like GRK, Plavac Mali and Rose. If you come to Lumbarda please do not miss tasting the Grk wine. It is one of the most famous wines in all of Croatia and beyond! Sabulum Winery is one of the newest in Lumbarda with a beautiful view of Pržina bay and its hosts Tina and Ante are amazing. Don t miss them. 🙂
The last day was a gem! We paddled from Lumbarda to Korčula and back and by then everyone had their chance to be a team leader and to organize a group in rough conditions. We made our stops and explored hidden quarries on Vrnik Island and the old monastery on Badija Island. In Korčula we had a treat in @AuroraSweets – by now that is a tradition we might say! 🙂 If you have not been there, please do! They have the best cakes in all of Croatia! 🙂
After a well-deserved break, we did a few extra exercises and headed home for a delicious meal at @Feral restaurant all topped with a nice evening on the terrace of our hosts in @PintaApartments who generously have us for 5th year in a row! Thank you for that! 🙂
All of the participants received their well-deserved certificates of attendance with warm words from Dimitri and encouragement to just keep practicing. Because no certificate is valid if you do not train on your acquired knowledge!
Dear friends, thank you all for joining us and we hope to see you again! 🙂
