Since the very first Sea Kayak Training Camp here in Lumbarda, our partnership with Sylvie and Dimitri from Northseakayak has been built on one foundation: Safety. While Dimitri leads his specialized training days back in Belgium, we have spent nearly a decade hosting these intensive week-long camps in Croatia to provide a solid framework for paddlers from all over the world.

Today, we are thrilled to announce the final step in externalizing the NORTHSEAKAYAK training system: the Sea Kayak Safety Pass.

What is the Sea Kayak Safety Pass?

The Sea Kayak Safety Pass is an A6 pocket-sized logbook designed to follow your personal trajectory within the sport. It isn’t just a manual; it’s a personal “passport” (complete with a bio section and photograph) that tracks your experience across three distinct levels: Inland, Coastal, and Offshore. The Sea Kayak SafetyPass allows you to follow a trajectory within the sport. It is up to the user to complete the trajectory in any way they want. The trajectory can be completed on your own by self-evaluation, with the assistance and assessment of an instructor, or with the combination of both! When following the path of self-evaluation, the first part explains how exactly to do this. Also, when working with an instructor, every technique is described in a way that is clear to both the user and the instructor on exactly how to perform it successfully. With every technique comes a guideline and some tips without becoming a manual.

Why This is a Game Changer

What makes this system truly unique is that it is the first to allow—and even validate—self-evaluation.

We know that many sea kayakers don’t have easy access to a local club, federation, or instructor. These paddlers are often forgotten, but not with this pass. The system puts the responsibility directly into your hands:

Independent Growth: Use the detailed guidelines to master techniques and self-evaluate your progress.

Professional Validation: Use it alongside an instructor of your choice to have your skills assessed and signed off.

Total Compatibility: It doesn’t interfere with other existing systems; it encourages them! You can combine the Safety Pass with any training you are already doing.

No One Gets Left Behind

The pass is designed for everyone. If you don’t have access to tidal waters, the system includes “level-up” calculations for wind and conditions, so you can still progress. Once you master all techniques in a specific level, you even unlock the path to becoming a Team Leader or Instructor through a dedicated internship stage.

A Passion Project, Not a Commercial One

In the spirit of the sea kayaking community, the SeaKayakSafetyPass is not a commercial venture. The cost of the booklet merely covers production and shipping.
